Carlotta Bailly-Borg

Carlotta Bailly-Borg (b. 1984, France) lives and works in Brussels. Her practice spans ceramics, canvas painting, frescos and reverse glass painting. She collides and contaminates references and perspectives until they form new pictorial and fictional surrealist spaces. Her works depicts landscapes of faces and bodies knotted and crammed into compact compositions, in which the surface serves to limit their proliferation.

The inspiration for her, at times grotesque and nebulous sensual figures, comes from medieval manuscripts, Greek or Hindu mythological sources, old Peruvian ceramics and erotic Japanese illustrations. The common point in these sources is a direct aspect, the efficacy of line and curves, their timelessness and the question of physical love.
