May Hands was artist in residence at Bosse & Baum during August 2018 using the gallery space in Peckham, London, as her studio. She used the studio as medium, a laboratory of experiments, exploring on going themes within her practice. Whilst artist -in- residence at Bosse & Baum, she made a series of small works as a result of her exploration of materials, which were presented in early September, 2018, at Bosse & Baum.
May collects urban and natural detritus, sourced from places she lives within and passes through, over the course of the residency. These findings have interacted with one another in the studio space, alongside pre-made and foraged materials that make up her ever growing collection of ingredients. She uses these ingredients to explore physicality and sensuality of materials, alchemy, transformation and cycles, through a rich use of mediums; installation, performance, textiles, assemblage, film and photography.
