Operativa, Rome
Operativa is thrilled to present the first solo show in Rome by Bea Bonafini, Twin Waves ≈ Onde Gemelle, a new body of work interweaving engraved cork, tapestry, drawing, ceramic and sound. The show introduces a fragmented cosmos of fluid metamorphoses, where human and non-human boundaries melt, multiply and collide.
Bonafini is an Italian artist living between Rome and London. Her practice is informed by a continuous experimentation with materials and craftsmanship, often taking form through mixed media and references. Her work spans from sculpture to installations, combining historic iconography with modern pictorial traditions in a sensuous yet intimate immediacy. The works on display were conceived in Rome on the occasion of the fellowship residency Abbey Scholar at the British School (BSR). Bea Bonafini was born in 1990 in Bonn, Germany. Bonafini graduated at the Royal College of Art and the Slade School of Fine Art in London and exhibited in several exhibitions. She has recently been artist in residence at the British School at Rome (BSR), Rome (2019) and in Platform Southwark Studio Residency, London (2019), Fibra Residency, Colombia (2019), Fieldworks Studio Residency, London (2017) and The Beekepers Residency, Portugal (2015). Among the latest solo shows: Chloe Salgado, Paris (2019), Bosse & Baum, London (2019), Lychee One Gallery, London (2018), Zabludowicz Collection, London (2017).
