Collective Ending presents⁣ ‘The material substance of their origin’

Evening Event: Friday 5th August, 6-8 pm
Open Saturday 6th & Sunday 7th August, 12-4pm

Collective Ending are pleased to present ‘The material substance of their origin’, a project by Hannah Lees & May Hands hosted at our Collective Ending HQ.

Lughnasad, or Lughnassadh is halfway between the Summer Solstice (Lithia) and the Autumn Equinox (Mabon). Lugh was the Celtic God of Craftsmanship and Skill, known as the “many-skilled God”. The festival celebrates the Harvest and the sacrifice of the Grain God; Death and Rebirth. There are also links to the Grain Mother (Ceres, Demeter, Corn Mother) and John Barleycorn – the living spirit of the corn or grain.

Incorporating ideas of collective making, the artists will host a series of participatory/collaborative activities initiating practical crafting such as: cob-making, intentional weaving & stitching with ideas from Sigil magick, effigy building and creating natural dyes using locally foraged materials. This will then form the catalyst for an evening event and installation of the remnants and remains within the gallery for a final presentation of the outcomes.
